Apple has significantly reduced the prices of its iPhone 15 series in Indonesia. The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are now discounted by up to Rp 2.5 million. This move comes despite the fact that Apple's latest flagship series has only been available in the market for a few months since its launch at the end of 2023.
According to CNBC Indonesia's observations on the official iBox distributor website, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus prices have been slashed by Rp 2.5 million. Meanwhile, the prices of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are now Rp 2 million cheaper.
A similar trend of price reductions for the iPhone 15 series has also been observed in China. Major retailers such as JD.com, TMall, and Pinduoduo have collectively lowered the selling prices of the iPhone 15 series.
This move follows sluggish sales of the models, as reported by Reuters on Monday (4/3/2024).
Discounts on the iPhone 15 series in China have been offered over several periods. Apple has allowed its vendor partners in China to offer discounts due to sluggish sales, which have been eroded by competition from local players such as Huawei and Xiaomi.
Last month, Apple offered discounts on iPhones on its official website of up to 500 yuan or around Rp 1.9 million.
This week, third-party retailers have once again discounted the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Some models have seen price drops of up to 1,300 yuan or around Rp 2.9 million.
Local media reports indicate that retailers are offering these discounts to celebrate International Women's Day, which falls on March 8, 2024. However, the duration of the promotion has not been disclosed.
Apple, JD, Alibaba, and Pinduoduo have not responded to requests for confirmation.
It is worth noting that iPhone price reductions typically occur when newer generations are introduced. However, the iPhone 15, being the latest series, is already being discounted, sparking comments as this has never happened before.
The iPhone 15 has faced pressure in China, with a sales decline shortly after its launch.
A report by Counterpoint Research in October revealed a 4.5% drop in iPhone 15 sales compared to the iPhone 14, all within just 17 days of its market launch.
Analysts predict that iPhone sales performance in China will continue to decline throughout 2024.
